The Stick-in-the-Mud Division

So the Notorious is slinging insults at everyone. He’s the money fighter. Anyone on his cards should thank him for the limelight. Anyone who fights him should be thrilled for the opportunity.
Connor McGregor had a lot to say at the Go Big press conference: he wants to move up to 155 once he’s done with the Brazilian, and he’s going to blast his way through a division that’s too slow and sluggish to even see him coming. But everyone in his path should thank him... because he’s going to make them rich.
When you sign to fight me, it’s a celebration, you ring back home, you ring, ‘Baby, we done it. We’re rich. Conor McGregor made us rich. Break out the red panties. We’re rich, baby.’” - Conor McGregor at the 'Go Big' press conference
This is arguably McGregor’s biggest smack-talk to date. So what’s the deal? More of the same? Or is this a new tactic?
Theory one: the success and fame and attention have gone to the poor Irishman’s head. He’s in for tragic disappointment when he finally meets Aldo, and the lad has no idea.
But McGregor’s clearly not that stupid, although the true depth of his arrogance is unknowable. He’s an actor, and he’s playing at something.
Theory two: the Notorious is actually the godlike monster he claims to be. He will do exactly as he says. He will destroy Aldo, and then walk through the entire lightweight division.
Time will tell.
Theory three: the money can only get better. Tails – the more McGregor sells himself, the more he stands to make at UFC 194. If this is the eve of his downfall, he might as well squeeze out every last drop. And heads – McGregor defeats Aldo. He’s already started promoting three stellar cards: the Notorious versus Duffy, versus Cerrone, versus Dos Anjos.
And so the anticipation for December 12th increases another degree.
